Aberdeen and surrounding areas had been hit with some decent snow which, paired with a cold snap, had lasted around a week, but with a big thaw looming the following week, we decided to head out west to Pitfichie (about 20 miles from Aberdeen) for a trail run.
It was initially meant to be a recce for a future run, but after leaving the main track and heading for the ridgeline, suddenly we were breaking trail in hip deep snow drifts which made for some pretty tough going.
Our original route was meant to be around 15km and headed up to the summit of Cairn William before looping back to the car park, but after battling with the deep snow, we called it at the summit of Green Hill and headed back.
A Type 2 fun kind of day which, at times, felt like we were in Northern Finland rather than the North East of Scotland.
We'll definitely be back.
